ADCO Law’s Focus on Bolstering the Banking and Finance Practice Area

Ivan Tjahjadi

The challenges faced by the Indonesian banking and financial sector are growing, broadening, and becoming more dynamic. During the 2023 Financial Services Industry Annual Meeting, The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, emphasized the need for caution in regulating and overseeing this sector to avoid upheaval. The President stated that macro and micro works must go hand in hand.

The various challenges that have arisen from the Covid-19 Pandemic and large-scale social restriction policies have been gradually resolved by industry players. But now, the world has arrived at the global recession of 2023. Global growth is slowing sharply, with the possibility of a further slowdown as more countries fall into recession. The problem of recession brings every business to a commitment to integrity. Strengthening integrity in the banking and finance sector, which is closely related to the application of banking best practices, has now become a national and even global issue. Economic crimes such as cyber-attacks, for example, are increasingly attracting the attention of business actors in this sector to strengthen information technology security systems in order to mitigate risks, especially amidst a global recession.

Discussions regarding the banking and finance sector in 2023 will be more than just about the global recession and post-pandemic in 2023. In particular, to support the growth of Indonesia’s New and Renewable Energy industry ecosystem, the banking portfolio in the country in terms of lending to sectors involved in downstream mining is a prospect.

Project financing activities necessarily need rigorous and disciplined risk management as the nation is committed to increasing the added value of domestic mining products to positively contribute to national economic growth.

Overall, the objectives are clear i.e., the Banking and Finance industry must continue to grow in a healthy and sustainable manner and be able to provide great benefits for national economic development and people’s welfare. This can be realized with the involvement of many parties to jointly develop strategies and solutions.

ADCO Law, a Proud Member of Alliot Global Alliance, has long been entrusted with assisting numerous large corporations, commercial banks, Islamic banks and financing institutions in Indonesia and the Asian region. And now, this rapidly expanding firm once again strengthens the formation by welcoming not only Aditya Kesha Wijayanto in early February 2023 as a Senior Partner to lead the Banking and Finance Practice Area, but also Ivan Tjahjadi as a Senior Associate of this practice area. Ivan will begin working on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

Ivan’s arrival at ADCO Law is another evidence that the Banking and Finance Practice Area is one of the firm’s focuses in 2023, amidst all the challenges that this area is currently experiencing. ADCO Law’s ability to integrate legal experience and business understanding has been proven to not only help business actors but also to proactively realize the firm’s commitment to supporting all clients, interacting with various industries, and continuing to assist in an increasingly dynamic business world. Kesha’s experiences, as the head of this practice area, in handling various financial transaction projects, corporate finance projects, infrastructure development, mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment, and matters relating to general corporate affairs, are further strengthened by the presence of Ivan with his experience in various banking and financial transactions.

Aditya Kesha Wijayanto, Senior Partner of ADCO Law, responded to Ivan Tjahjadi’s arrival: “As a law firm that offers a variety of integrated legal services to clients, ranging from business transactions to corporate litigation in various industry sectors, ADCO Law needs to strengthen the formation of each practice area, especially Banking and Finance. I am confident that Ivan, a driven and talented lawyer, will also enable the firm to reach its full potential in terms of offering thorough legal advice and solutions to our clients in the Banking and Finance sector to mitigate legal risks while managing business dynamics.”

Ivan Tjahjadi is a highly dedicated lawyer with experience handling various corporate and financial transactions. He has successfully assisted various clients from various industry sectors, especially in banking and financial matters. Prior to his position at ADCO Law, he contributed to several prominent law firms in Indonesia.

During his years of practice, Ivan has been involved in various transactions i.e., representing a syndicate of conventional banks and Islamic banks in conventional financing and sharia financing for the development of oil palm plantations for plantation companies; representing a syndicate of state-owned banks in providing credit facilities for the construction of water treatment installation projects; representing a financial company domiciled in the United States of America in providing credit facilities to Indonesian Venture Capital companies; representing a Chinese BUMN that focuses on the mineral resources business in acquiring two nickel companies located in Morowali, Indonesia; and others.

His presence at ADCO Law not only boosts the firm’s energy as a whole but also leaves a particular mark on himself: “This is a noteworthy new accomplishment. I’m even more inspired to contribute to this firm after learning about ADCO Law’s values: client-focused, collaboration, and growth,” he stated. “I’m sure these values are what essentially bring this firm to continue to flourish, and now I’ve become a member of it,  aiming to bring impacts on the welfare of the community and the development of the national economy.” he closed.
