DiscoverADCO The Battle – Tested Litigators

“How does it feel to be a lawyer in court? Does it feel like Harvey Specter in the Suits Series?”

This question may be asked by some people when seeing lawyers who meet in court – or better known as litigators. Not without reason, Fajrin Muflihun, Rian Wicaksana, Liza Mashita, and Jessica Christi, four ADCO Law litigators joined in the practice area of Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution at this firm. They have the same foundation in choosing litigation as their expertise for their careers.

“Being involved in this practice area is truly unique for us. Everything feels challenging, complex, highly mobile, and exciting,” said Rian. Of course, being a litigation lawyer is not an easy matter. “We are not only required to be good at formulating appropriate strategies and actions during meetings, but also to be creative in pouring ideas into writing or dialogue. Your thoughts and actions must be in a perfect synchrony”, explained Liza Mashita, one of the team members who this year was crowned as Hukumonline’s NeXGen Lawyer 2022. “I am not the only one who feels this way. You know. All of my colleagues in this team are also bonded with the same feeling,” she continued with a chuckle.

A. Ready for All Possibilities: Making the Impossible Possible

Being a litigator means being prepared for all possibilities and conditions that may occur. Moving from one courtroom to another, even from one court to another, is common for every team member. “There was once a condition where we missed our flight due to a long trial. We also once brought a special suitcase containing documents of trial evidence. Not to mention, we had to calm down the panicked witnesses in the courtroom,” said Jessica. In the courtroom, anything can happen, but coordination between team members, and making a planned schedule are the keys to the success of these four litigators.

They also have special post-trial activities. “After the trial is over, we will evaluate the case handling process, including the strategy we have implemented. If the strategy proves to be effective, we will continue to do so. However, if it is proven otherwise, we will discuss further for improvements,” explained Fajrin.

Even in the face of victory, this team has something in common in celebrating it. “First, every time we face a victory, for us, what should not be missed is being grateful, grateful, and grateful,” said Rian. “Second, always remember that there are many important factors that support the team’s success. Because there is no superiority or inferiority between us, there is no boundary between seniors and juniors,” he continued. “Third, we often value every small contribution as a form of respect. For us, celebration: a short vacation, a casual dinner, or anything else, however small, is important,” he explained.

B. Favorite Activities: Mountain Climbing and Horseback Riding

“Besides everything we have described above, one of the other keys to success is a hobby. We have our own hobbies, you know, which we do actively, especially after the trial. For example, my hobby is mountain climbing, or Jessica, who likes horse riding. Refreshment is necessary, isn’t it?” said Liza.
In the end, they agreed that it wasn’t a matter of winning or losing that was the determinant of success, but making a decision that satisfied the clients’ sense of justice. “We call it making the impossible possible. We do everything optimistically to give satisfactory results,” closed Jessica.
